Welcome to our site. You probably already know that atomizers and mods are very popular. Let’s find out why!
There are mechanical and variable voltage/wattage mods and three kinds of RBAs: Genesis, bottom fed, and dripper. Most vapers use IMR batteries which are safer than standard rechargeable batteries.
Genesis has stainless steel mesh wicks. Others use standard silica as the wick. All atomizers use Nichrome or Kanthal for resistance wire (heating coil). Sub-ohm has resistance less than 1 ohm. Resistance affects the power. Power affects vapor volume, vape temperature, and flavor.
Mechanical mods are hollow tubes with a switch. They have no circuitry. They are preferred for sub-ohm vaping. You can adjust the voltage/power up and down with a variable mod. It also has protective circuit against shorts and can’t be used for sub-ohm vaping.
Rebuildable mods (RBA) have 2 core sections. A lower part (case) that holds the battery is the mod. Located at the top is the coil and rebuidable atomizer with mechanical and variable voltage and wattage.
There are 3 types of atomizers: Top-fed, bottom-fed, and the dripper. Drippers are called rebuildable dripping atomizers. Top-fed atomizers contain stainless steel mesh that's rolled and torched as a wick. Standard builds use silica as the wick.
Nichrome and Kanthal resistance wire are also used in atomizers but Kanthal is more robust. Torch prior to use to burn off any manufacturing residue. This wire is used in heating and ventilation systems, and in small appliances like toasters, coffee pots, and irons.
Since drippers do not have a tank, just add a few drops of e-juice between puffs. There are fewer problems with drippers since you drip e-juice directly onto the coil and you can easily switch flavors.
Wrapping lengthens the wire and increases the resistance. Less than 1 ohm of resistance is known as sub-ohm. Since resistance is power, power equals voltage square over the resistance, and batteries equaling 3 volts with resistance of 1 ohm, the power is 9 watts. Increased resistance = reduced power. Decreased resistance = increased power.
Power affects vapor volume, temperature, and flavor. Voltage or power can adjusted up or down with variable mods. When you adjust the voltage, it will directly affect the power or just set the power the desired wattage similar to vaping at 3.2 volts and 4.8 volts.
Variable mods have a circuit to stop shorts and won’t work with low resistances and cannot be used for sub-ohm vaping.
Since mechanical mods are a hollow tube and a switch without circuitry and no protection circuit, build what you want and it will still fire. That's why mechanical mods are excellent for sub-ohm vaping. Sub-ohm vaping can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.
Since IMRs are not standard rechargeable batteries, they are supposed to be safer. You can purchase button top or flat top. The number on top is the battery capacity and the lower number is the physical size of the battery.
